The DMA Circulation Hall of Fame Award
The DMA Circulation Hall of Fame Award each year recognizes an individual, elected by his or her peers, who has contributed significantly to the circulation industry. The award is presented at The DMA's annual Circulation Day. This year it will be held on March 3, 2011 at the Time Life Conference Center, New York, NY.
2011 Winner:
Bob Cohn is Consumer Marketing Director for Bonnier's Science and Outdoor Groups
Bob orchestrates consumer marketing strategy and activities for Popular Science, Field & Stream, Outdoor Life, and Science Illustrated Magazines. This year, he was instrumental in launching Popular Science's new iPad application, Popular Science +. In 2008, he directed the launch of Science Illustrated Magazine, an established Danish publication, in the U.S. market. Prior to joining Bonnier full-time in March 2007, as a consultant, he played a key role in the establishment of Bonnier Corporation in the US and its acquisition and integration of 18 titles previously owned by Time Inc. As an independent publishing consultant from 2001 through 2006, he also played a key role in the creation of Active Interest Media and the sale of Weider Publications to American Media Inc. He worked on major consulting projects for such clients as the Economist, Weider Publications, PINK magazine, and others — specializing in setting up, establishing, and marketing new magazines. Mr. Cohn has enjoyed a long career in publishing and consumer marketing.
Among his previous positions, he has served as:
- Vice President, Consumer Marketing for Times Mirror Magazines
- President and Publisher of Horticulture
- Senior Vice President, Consumer Marketing for Magazine Publishers of America
- Executive Publisher, American Health Magazine
- Vice President, Policy Development Corporation (one of the pioneer circulation modeling companies)
He began his publishing career at CBS Publications in the early 1970's, where he played a key role in that company's entry and growth in consumer magazine publishing – and where he learned the fundamentals of fulfillment, direct mail, and computer modeling. Subsequently he served as Circulation Director of New York Magazine and supervised the Time Magazine account at direct marketing agency Wunderman, Ricotta, and Kline. As Vice President of PDC – one of the earliest computer modeling companies — he worked with the publishers of over 120 different consumer magazines and every major fulfillment operation – developing circulation business plans and strategies. In that role, he helped train many clients who went on to significant careers in magazine circulation and fulfillment. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and has an M.B.A in Marketing from Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business.
